Shohei Ohtani is the Best Player in Baseball

    It goes without saying Shohei Ohtani is absolutely the best player in baseball right now. First player in MLB history to join the 50/50 club (technically 51/51 but that's not the point). What he's doing is absolutely incredible. He is not currently pitching because he's technically recovering from offseason TOMMY JOHN surgery. This usually takes pitchers out for an entire season, for good reason. Ohtani is out there still dominating with a bad elbow. My hot take on Shohei's domination is that next season if he starts pitching again, his batting will take a dip. I think he'll still dominate but doing it at this level when your brain is constantly shifting and your routine gets mixed up every 5 to 6 days, I think his batting will take a little dip. 

    Here's my main question with Shohei and the MLB in general. What happened to drug testing? There's no way that baseball has figured out a system that they are always on top of PED testing. I'm not necessarily accusing Shohei of using PEDs BUT I just think that it's weird that normally, in years past, whenever a guy has a crazy season like this, there's all kinds of talk in the media on behalf of the player at least questioning, at most accusing, whether or not they've got something going on. That was the golden days of baseball, anytime someone was good--they were on drugs. At least from my memory, which is flakey at best, the last time that it really happened was A-Rod. who has been retired for like 10 years! 

    We need to get back to accusing major league players of drugs. Not because I think Shohei and others are using PEDs by any means, but we're doing far too much admiration for my liking. I like Shohei and I think he's incredible for the league as a whole and we will continue to see more growth because of him but we need some more haters to start coming out. Baseball is a sport that is lagging behind in popularity so my opinion is that much of the media is trying to push up how awesome baseball players are and what an incredible generation of players we have right now (which is objectively true), but come on. Let's get some more haters out there! Where are the Skip Bayless's of Baseball media? Skip is a generational hater and no matter how good LeBron is at basektball, Skip will NEVER admit it. Baseball needs someone like that. Sports need a little drama and as I've said before, the Dodgers are the new Yankees an EVERYBODY hates the Yankees. We, as baseball fans, need to start hating on the Dodgers like we do the Yankees. That probably includes giving Shohei just a little bit less shine.
